Master Plan COMPLETE

2040 Airport Master Plan
Where it all began.
- In 2019, the Charlottetown Airport Authority completed a 2040 Airport Master Plan.
- The plan identified infrastructure improvements needed immediately and for future growth.
- It provided the framework for all expansion decisions that followed.

Expansion Project Approved
After a 3-year pandemic delay, the CAA Board of Directors gave the green light.
- CAA Board approved the initiation of the ATB Expansion Project in November 2022.
- SableARC, a Charlottetown-based sustainable architecture firm, was awarded the design contract in January 2023.
- EllisDon named as general contractor.

Phase 1a: The Dock Opens
Canada's first outdoor airport boarding lounge opens at YYG.
- The Dock opened in summer 2023 at a cost of $1.6 million.
- Canada's first outdoor airport boarding lounge — a first of its kind in the country.
- Features 200 seats, a licensed lounge, and tarmac views of the airfield.
- Colourful Muskoka chairs and open-air design reflect the warmth of Island summers.

Phase 1b: Construction Begins on New Check-In Hall
The transformation of YYG's ground floor begins.
- Construction starts on the expanded check-in hall in fall 2024.
- Expansion allows for more counters and significantly more passenger space.
- Additional office, storage, and operational space created for airline and ground handler partners.
- CAA administration offices relocated and expanded to the second floor.

Phase 1b: New Check-In Hall Opens
The most visible transformation yet — a new first impression for every traveller at YYG.
- The expanded check-in hall officially opens to the public.
- Features a stunning 1,400 square foot landscape photograph by local PEI photographer Brady McCloskey.
- The image depicts PEI's iconic red sand cliffs and coastline, greeting every traveller who walks through the doors.
- New check-in counters, improved passenger flow, and a modern, open feel throughout.
- New baggage handling system installed for airline partners.

New Security Operations Centre (SOC) Opens
A new home for GardaWorld Security — keeping YYG safe and connected.
- New Security Operations Centre (SOC) opens within the terminal.
- GardaWorld Security staff available to assist all passengers during their travels.
- The SOC serves as the command centre for all security operations at YYG.
- Passengers can visit the SOC booth for assistance, lost and found inquiries, and general support.

New Washrooms Open (Groundside & Airside)
Expanded washrooms, including a universal washroom with adult changing station.
- New expanded washrooms opening both groundside (before security) and airside (after security).
- Includes a universal washroom with adult changing station — a first at YYG.
- Reflects YYG's commitment to accessible and inclusive travel for all passengers.
- Part of YYG's broader accessibility plan under the ATB Expansion.

Phase 2/3: New CATSA Pre-Board Screening Area
A modern, expanded security screening experience is on the way.
- Rotation and expansion of the pre-board screening and CATSA queuing area.
- Designed to significantly reduce congestion during peak departure periods.
- Beautiful new wood slat ceiling feature and expanded screening lanes.
- Coming in fall/winter 2026.

Phase 2/3: New Departure Lounge & Gates Open
The new heart of YYG — where every departure begins.
- Expanded departure lounge with floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the airfield.
- Increase from existing gates to 5 gates with vestibule and canopy for boarding.
- New Budley's On the Fly and retail/concessions space within the departure lounge.
- Suspended red paper airplane art installation as a signature design feature.
- New gate areas with modern seating and digital information displays.
