Charlottetown, PE – Today, as part of their 2022 summer schedule release, Swoop revealed that two additional routes will take off from YYG Charlottetown Airport this year. Starting in early May, Swoop will be offering non-stop service between Charlottetown and two Ontario airports – Toronto Pearson Airport and John C. Munro Hamilton International Airport.
This follows Swoop’s announcement on November 15th of new flights to Edmonton, Alberta, slated to start on June 15th.
“Swoop’s announcement of additional routes at YYG this summer is great news for the Airport Authority, and great news for Prince Edward Island,” said Doug Newson, CEO at YYG. “As we get set to welcome back more visitors to our beautiful province this summer, this additional capacity will be a big boost for our tourism industry.”
Swoop’s new service between Charlottetown and Hamilton will start on May 1st and operate every Monday, Thursday, Friday, and Sunday. The new Toronto service will start on May 4th, operating on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday each week. Swoop had originally planned to start service between Hamilton and Charlottetown in June 2020 but those plans were cancelled due to the pandemic.
“Today’s announcement is very exciting for Islanders, and for our family, friends and visitors who are daydreaming about their Prince Edward Island vacation,” said Minister of Economic Growth, Tourism and Culture Matthew MacKay. “The launch of these flights is a sign that those special summer days are not that far away. We will soon be welcoming back our beloved visitors to enjoy our world famous hospitality and everything the Island has to offer.”
