Charlottetown Airport Announces Return of Annual Runway Run

The Charlottetown Airport Authority (CAA) announced today the return of their annual runway run. After forgoing the run in 2018 due to the rehabilitation of their main runway, the 5k walk/run is back and with a new charity – Children’s Wish, PEI Chapter. The run will take place on Saturday, May 18 at 9:30am.

“We are so excited to have our annual runway run back. It’s such a unique event for runners. It’s the one time of the year we close our main runway to aircraft for an hour and let runners take off instead,” says Vanessa Smith, Manager, Marketing & Communications for CAA. “And to partner with Children’s Wish, an amazing local organization, whose work we have seen first-hand, is the perfect fit to receive the proceeds.”

The Children’s Wish Foundation of Canada is the largest and only all-Canadian wish granting charity dedicated to granting wishes to Canadian children between the ages of 3 and 17 who are diagnosed with a life-threatening illness. The PEI Chapter is currently working on 24 wishes for Island children. The average cost of a wish is $10,000.

“Travel wishes are the most popular type of wish we grant and for our wish children and their families, the Charlottetown Airport is the gateway to experiencing their most heartfelt wish. We’re are thrilled to be the charitable partner for this incredibily unique and exciting event,” said Darryl Warren, Development Coordinator at Children’s Wish, PEI.
