WestJet Launching Summer Service Between Calgary and PEI

Charlottetown, PE – WestJet announced today it will launch new non-stop service between Charlottetown and Calgary, Alberta this summer. The twice-weekly seasonal service, that was originally planned to start in June 2020, will begin on July 29.

“This news is just fantastic for YYG and for Prince Edward Island. This new WestJet service was announced pre-pandemic and after a one-year delay, we are thrilled they are able to officially launch it when PEI opens our borders to the rest of Canada in late July,” said Doug Newson, CEO at YYG.

WestJet’s new seasonal service between Charlottetown Airport and Calgary International Airport will operate on WestJet’s 737 aircraft. Flights are timed for convenient connectivity through WestJet’s largest hub in Calgary to destinations across Western Canada.

“There has always been a strong connection between PEI and Alberta,” said Newson. “We are delighted that our partners at WestJet decided to launch this service, giving many Albertans the opportunity to vacation on our beautiful island and allowing Islanders to access the breathtaking mountains in Western Canada through WestJet’s Calgary hub.”

“Today’s announcement is very exciting for Islanders, and our dearly missed family, friends and visitors,” said Minister of Economic Growth, Tourism and Culture Matthew MacKay. “The launch of these flights is a sign that brighter days are around the corner, and I can’t wait for Prince Edward Island to get back to doing what we do best, delivering world-class hospitality.”
