YYG Statement on Atlantic Bubble

YYG Supports Atlantic Bubble, Looks Forward to Further Easing of Restrictions When the Time is Right

Charlottetown, PE – YYG Charlottetown Airport applauds the announcement today by Premier Dennis King and the other Atlantic Premiers committing to ease travel restrictions in Atlantic Canada, as of July 3rd.

“Working with other airports in our region through the Atlantic Canada Airports Association, we have been asking our Provincial Premiers for a responsible, risk-based easing of travel restrictions that balances public health and the restart of our economy. Although this announcement today will not have any direct impact on passenger movements at YYG, we do believe it is a positive first step and are hopeful that it will result in a further easing of restrictions, when the time is right and it is safe to do so,” said Doug Newson, YYG Charlottetown Airport CEO. “We also know how important this news is to the health of our province’s tourism industry, which is critical to our success and recovery efforts moving forward.”

As reported at our Annual Public Meeting yesterday, traffic at YYG is down by 97% over the past few months. Like many Islanders, we are concerned about the long-term impacts of COVID-19 and see this announcement today as a significant step towards starting the road back to economic recovery while continuing to ensure the health and safety of our residents.

In collaboration with public health officials and Transport Canada, YYG and our airline partners have worked hard to implement new procedures and policies for the protection of travellers through every step of the passenger journey. We are committed to adhere to these and any new directives issued to ensure the safety of our passengers and employees.
