Charlottetown, PE – The Charlottetown Airport Authority Inc. (CAA) is thrilled to announce a second consecutive year of record-breaking passenger travel at YYG Charlottetown Airport in 2024.
Last year, 410,773 passengers travelled through the airport, representing an increase of 2.0% over 2023, and 7.2% over 2019.
“We are incredibly proud of the record-breaking year we experienced at YYG in 2024,” said Doug Newson, CEO of the Charlottetown Airport Authority. “This achievement is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our entire team, the strong support of our airline partners, and the growing demand for travel to and from Prince Edward Island.”
Key Highlights:
- Four airlines – Air Canada, Porter, WestJet, and Flair – operating to six destinations.
- Started construction of Phase 1b of the air terminal building expansion project and design for Phases 2 and 3.
- Released new sustainability and accessibility plans.
- Achieved Level 3 Airport Carbon Accreditation.
- Completed signage and way finding upgrade project.
- Launched “The YYG Connection”, an internal passenger experience training program.
- Participated in Airport Workers Day and Elevate Aviation and brought back the Autism Aviators program.
- Supported over 30 organizations and charities across PEI, highlighted by the $8,000 raised from the YYG Runway Run which was shared between Special Olympics PEI and Just Live.
CAA will continue to focus on building its air service network and is optimistic that some exciting announcements will be in store in 2025. The Airport Authority is also thrilled to be hosting Altitude East 2025 this June in Charlottetown. Altitude East is Atlantic Canada’s leading air access forum for air service development, marketing and transportation officials.
